Introducing: Klaas Goedhart, Production & Planning Niron Staal

His business card says: ‘Production & Planning’ and his actual place is behind the production and planning desk, but Klaas Goedhart also feels quite at home in the workshop of Niron Staal .

Asking Klaas Goedhart (41) what his job is, he responds with a big smile. “Officially I’m responsible for  ‘Production & Planning’, but in practice I actually do general day-to-day running of the business, task preparation, and some calculation and customer contact as well. Occasionally I’m also working  in the machine shop – when things get complicated down there they come and get me. In principle I can program just about all the machines. I worked in production for years, at Stork, amongst others, making parts for trains.”

Klaas flies back and forth between his office and the workshop . He says: “I never really knew what I wanted to be and ended up in metalwork. After high school I entered a technical college. Evening classes and then a training as Chipper. I  got interested in metalwork and saw enough opportunities. It is never dull and there are always new things to learn. Then I trained as a CNC-operator, did an Autocat course and finally the Pedagogic Technical High School – where I still have to graduate. By that time my oldest son was born and after ten years of evening classes I had  enough of further education.”

Another son and a daughter arrived, as well as a variety of jobs and eventually, six years ago, Klaas started at Niron Staal. “Life’s good here,” he says. “You never know what to expect when you come in in the morning. We are a middle-sized company, but when you see what we actually do, then we’re up amongst the big boys. My work is divers, we work for all kinds of industries   – that feels good to me, I don’t like to be hemmed in.“
