Experience the perfection

Introducing: Ramon Bulthuis, CNC-operator

He’s happily married to his ‘Zayer’ milling machine, but Ramon Bulthuis has been unfaithful. Just once.

It's a happy 'marriage' between Ramon Bulthuis and the most expensive tool in Niron's well-equipped machining hall: the Zayer milling machine. Ramon's official job-title is 'CNC-operator', which means that a computer actually controls the machine - and Ramon runs the computer. He first started working at Niron Staal nearly two years ago, but that only lasted a mere six months. Ramon: "I couldn’t get used to working the night shift, which was also an essential part of the job. When I worked days, I would lie awake all night completely unable to sleep. I just couldn't get used to it. So I went to work for another machine plant. Bad choice! That company went bankrupt twice, the second time shortly after making a fresh restart and I was very lucky in that I could come back to Niron."

Though Ramon's beauty sleep still isn't guaranteed, he won't consider moving on again. "No, certainly not. I can handle shift-work much better these days and I really love to operate the Zayer. I've been working in the steel branch ever since I started my apprenticeship. I could choose between the timber and steel industries - but once I had seen a milling machine cut steel as if it was soft butter I became completely fascinated by them. And you can believe me when I say that operating a Zayer is the ultimate metal-working experience."
