Fabrication of new bulbous bow for vessel ‘Wave Sentinel’

Following the award of WAVE SENTINEL by her owners, Global Marine Systems,  to Damen Shiprepair Brest  (part of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion) the yard has contracted Niron Staal to prefabricate a bulbous bow section for cable lay and multi-purpose offshore support vessel ‘Wave Sentinel’.

The ‘Wave Sentinel’ was converted in 1999 as a cable lay and multi-purpose offshore support vessel. The vessel has been designed and constructed to a very high standard and has the ability to perform a variety of offshore and subsea operations.

The yard in Brest is awarded to modify the ‘Wave Sentinel’ as the bow has to be repaired. Niron Staal is asked to pre-fabricate the new bulbous bow and to arrange transport to Brest. Modification is critical as the time of exchange is very limited due to loss of production time during docking.

The vessel’s superintendent Timothy Lee: “Docking our ship at the yard in Brest is a new opportunity for us, as the distance between the UK and Brest is short and because of deviation we will save costs. We know Niron Staal for their pre-fabrication possibilities for this kind of new bulb constructions.”
