History of Niron Staal
Steelwork since 1946
Founded in 1946 during the creation of the Nederlandsche Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij (NDSM), Niron Staal’s roots lie in the largest machine factory in the Netherlands. Despite challenges, including bankruptcies and acquisitions, the shipyard, machine factory, and repair hall endured.
Our story
In 1986, under Shipdock Amsterdam B.V., the repair halls began operating as Niron Staal (Newbuilding, Repair and Maintenance). By 1993, a partnership with Stapel B.V. formed Nista B.V., which undertook notable projects like the construction of tall ship Clipper Stad Amsterdam and the Cisne Branco, as well as the construction of cutterheads for Vosta LMG and cranes for Figee. After Nista’s bankruptcy in 2004, Niron Staal relaunched in 2005, continuing as a fully equipped steel construction and machining company, to this day on and for many more years to come.
